William Long William Avery Long Sr. 82, of James A Johnson Nursing Center, formerly of Calloway Farm Road, died February 23, 1998 at the Nursing Center.
He was born June 30, 1915 in Waynesville, a son of Lawrence S and Zena Messer Long. He was a U S Army veteran of World War 2 and served in New Guinea and in the South Philippines from 1942 until 1945. He was a member of the Oakview Baptist Church.
He retired from Mobil Chemical Co. after 24 years and moved to Dunedin, FL in 1970. He worked there for H P Hood and Stauffer Chemical and Metal Industries before returning to North Carolina in 1987.
Surviving are one son, William A Long Jr. of Clearwater FL; three daughters, Ms. Toni Renee Wilson of Asheboro; Miss Sylvia Diane Long of Dunedin and Ms. Carol Jean Glaze of Clearwater; four brothers, four sisters, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday at Cumby Eastchester Drive Chapel. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery in Jamestown. Visitation will be 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm tonight at the funeral home. |
