Clarence Vandiver

Clarence Houston "Van" Vandiver passed away peacefully after a sudden illness, surrounded by his wife and daughters on Tuesday, April 24, 2007. Van was born on September 21, 1929. He and Marcia, his wife of nearly 60 years, met in Globe, Arizona and married on July 24, 1948. They have been members of Westminster Presbyterian Church throughout their lives together. Van served in the Arizona National Guard for 40 years and had a successful career in car sales and management in the Phoenix/Glendale area. He and Marcia enjoyed activities with "The Dinosaurs". He was an active member of the Quetzalcoatl Order of the El Zaribah Shrine. For many years, Van and Marcia enjoyed an annual vacation in Munds Park, often joined by one or more of their daughters and their families. He enjoyed a daily walk with his cat, Beggar, and exercise class with the "Silver Sneakers" at Glendale Community College. Van is survived by his wife Marcia and his four daughters; Leslie Crean (Tom), Becky Vandiver, Susan Clement (Doug), and Laurie Barton (Brad), and his 5 granddaughters; Emmie, Deanna, Melanie, Heather, and Christine. He was loved and respected for his honesty and integrity and his caring ways. He will be greatly missed. Please join us for a memorial service at the Westminster Presbyterian Church (4739 N. 19th Ave.) on Saturday, April 28, at 1:00 pm. Private internment will take place at the National Memorial Cemetery. Donations in his name can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Fla. 33607. Arrangements entrusted to Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary.
