Eldon Webb
Eldon Webb died peacefully on October 21,
2007 at the age of 81 surrounded by family and friends. Eldon was born May
9, 1926 in Yakima, Washington and lived in Yakima most of his life. Eldon
attended the Adventist Academy as a child and later joined the Merchant
Marines at the age of 17, serving for one year on ships transporting
munitions and explosives to troops during the war. He was drafted into the
U.S. Army at 18 and served for 2 years in the Bushmasters Regiment, a
group of infantry that scouted villages in advance for enemy occupation.
He was trained in jungle fighting and stationed in the Philippines and
Japan. Eldon married Donna Weber while home on leave on August 31, 1946.
The couple had two daughters.
Eldon was a hardworking, dedicated family man, and worked in a variety of
occupations during his life. He enjoyed being a long haul truck driver and made
deliveries between Yakima and California. He worked as a Baker for many years
and was known among family and friends for his delicious raspberry Linzentorte
and Italian Cr?me Cakes. Eldon retired from baking and became a school bus
driver. He met many staff and children through this occupation and treasured
these relationships. Eldon also worked as a volunteer in the remedial reading
programs at local elementary schools and was viewed as a "grandpa" by many of
his students.
Camping, fishing, hunting, and hiking in the great outdoors were a passion for
Eldon. He enjoyed many family camping trips to Rimrock Lake and snowmobiling in
the Tampico area. He liked to sketch and filled numerous books with drawings and
memories. Eldon enjoyed painting mountain scenes and his oil paintings are found
in the homes of family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Wanda Webb, daughters Toni Webb of Yakima, and Tracie
Lozano of Maple Valley, son-in-law Frank Lozano , 2 grandchildren; Sarah and
Jared Lozano, step-daughter Kathy Mitchell of Renton, and 3 step sons; Rod
Jones, Dale Jones and Dennis Jones all of Yakima. Eldon is also survived by 2
half-sisters Betty Jordon of Arizona and Peggy Connella of Oregon, and 2
half-brothers; Fred Webb of Oregon and Norman Hill of Chehalis, Washington.
Visitation will be offered on Thursday, October 25, 2007 from 3 pm to 7 pm. The
funeral service will be held at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors at 1 pm on Friday,
October 26, 2007. Concluding services and burial will be in Tahoma Cemetery
followed by a reception in the Greenside Room at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors.
