Jerry Weibel

JEROME ALPHONSE "JERRY" WEIBEL, 89, of Worthington MN, died Friday, July 13, 2007, at South Shore Care Center, Worthington. Born Dec. 25, 1917, in Milford, Iowa, he was the son of Michael L. and Lucretia M. Gadbois Weibel. He married Gladys Wiese Oct. 6, 1947.

He grew up in Sioux City, Iowa, and graduated from Central High School in 1936. He worked at Atlas Court Street Grocery, was a bellhop for Chicago House, and a "news butch" on Chicago Northwestern Railroad on a route from Omaha, Neb., to St. Paul. He worked for Council Oak Food Stores, Rock Valley, Iowa, at the time he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941. He served with the Bushmasters from 1941-1945, and was in the South Pacific during World War II. After his discharge at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., he worked for Council Oak Food Store, Worthington. He worked for Nicols Dean and Greg wholesale auto parts from 1952 to 1956. He purchased and operated East Acres Mobile Home Court from 1956 to 1991. He was an American Family Insurance agent from 1957 to 1987. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Worthington, National Marriage Encounter, Golden Kiwanis, the Knights of Columbus and American Legion.

Surviving are his wife; four daughters, LeeAnn Weibel, Rome, Italy, Kathleen (Larry Goede) Weibel, Eagan, June (Dale McAtee) Weibel-McAtee, Omaha, Neb., and Donna (Marty) Bratsch, Little Falls; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The service will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Worthington, with the Rev. Larry Brixius officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
